Thursday Shout Out: Chalk It Up to Awesome.

We’ve had a love affair with chalkboards for longer than is probably decent, but what’s not to love? From the memories of playing hangman on the board in primary school to the simple idea that nothing is permanent and all you need to fix a mistake is a wipe of a cloth, chalkboards are flat out wonderful…and the best part is, they’re not just for hanging on walls anymore!

Chalkboard globe by stampyourartout. $59. Talk about making the world what you want it to be! This globe would be THE perfect graduation gift-send those kids out into the big, wide world and tell them to make it their own. Ideal for leaving notes for roommates (or your kids…or yourself) or just a place to doodle and dream of how you’d like things to be. This globe is so cool, so unique, and so, well, awesome, anywhere it ends up it will be right at home.

Piggy Pig Chalkboard 34×22 HUGE Vinyl Decal by looksugar. $47.88. You probably know by now that we’re suckers for anything farm animal related. Add “super useful” and give it a sense of humor, and we’re pretty much sold. If you ask us the Piggy Pig Chalkboard vinyl decal more than fits the bill. You’ll never forget to pick up the milk, screw up a recipe, or here “MOOOOOOOMMMM, what’s for dinner?” again if you have this baby in your kitchen.

Vintage Ball Jar with Chalkboard Label by oldcrowfarm. $8 each.  As much as we dream of having our lives perfectly organized, things rarely work out that way. We’d like to claim that there’s a method to our madness, but, honestly…it’s mostly just madness. However, with a couple of these vintage ball jars in our lives we might just make things a little less crazy. They’re beautiful to look at, they’re super cool and vintage, and oh, yeah-they of course have adorable chalkboard labels to keep everything in its place. Score.

Antique Framed Chalkboard by RowansRoom. $85. Hey, we’d be remiss if we ignored the simplicity of a classic chalkboard. This one from RowansRoom is pretty much a statement piece on its own-the gorgeous patina of the wood and slate have enough beauty even without anything written on it…but the real beauty of it is the next time the phone rings and you can’t find a pen and paper to scribble down a message, the chalkboard has got your back.

Chalkboard Wine Glass Charms/Wedding Gift or Favor Tags by corazoncreations. $15 for 12. We thought we’d seen it all, and then we found these adorable wine glass charms-and yes, they’d be perfect wedding gift or favor tags to boot! Personally, we want to focus on the wine glass charm aspect. Because we love wine. And also because we dream of  fabulous dinner parties where everyone is dressed to the nines, there’s tons of mouthwatering food, and the wine is flowing freely…and nobody has to worry about losing their glass because even their goblets are dressed up with the coolest accessories.

So, you know, if anybody is having a dinner party like that, please invite us. We’ll even bring our own chalk.

Personally I have fond memories of teaching with the chalkboard in my classroom….until it was ripped out and replaced with a dry erase board – and then we all had the luxury of breathing the fumes of the markers and the liquid cleaners. Ugh. I’ll take a little chalkdust any day.
