For the Love of Burlap

You heard it here first, folks: we predict burlap is going to be HUGE this season!
Okay, so maybe “huge” is a bit off. But the solid fact of the matter is this: Burlap kind of rocks our world, especially when it just so happens to be vintage burlap. Like vintage burlap from a Swiss WWII burlap sack vintage burlap.

See? Try and deny that that is totally awesome. Because you can’t. And if you can, we don’t want to hear about it, because when we saw that vintage stenciling and gorgeous blue striping detail we knew we had to use it for something.

Then we found these awesome Navy style bailout bags, perfect for, well, pretty much anything you can think of. Sure, they came to us as plain canvas bags, but add a gorgeous vintage burlap patch (complete with our new crowned Bessie design, of course,) and now she’s ready to hold your kids’ toys, your magazine collection, yarn or fabric stash, or just that endless random stuff that needs to be tossed somewhere while still being accessible. Plus with ole’ Bessie giving you that knowing look over her shoulder, you’ll feel too guilty to not keep everything in its place.

And notice the sweet grommets. Yes, Kate did seriously injure her thumb in the application of the first few, but don’t worry-it wasn’t her hitchin’ thumb and she’s got the hang of it now so the danger should be passed. Plus Mackenzie informed her that she wouldn’t qualify for workman’s comp if she hurt herself again, so she’s being decidedly more careful with that hammer.

And yes, we will be having more burlap show up in the shop-this bailout bag is just the tip of the burlap iceberg, so when this all ends up being a HUGE trend this year (that’s right, we said it. Again.) you can remember that Meatbagz, as always (for once?), was ahead of the curve.*

*Plus we just really like burlap.

  1. I attended my first flea market this past Saturday with my mom and the burlap was quite popular. I little out of my price range, BUT it got me thinking. I did find a 5 x 7 piece at my local hardware store that I’m going to wash and probably stain up a bit, perhaps run it over with my car to give it that “used look”~

Anyway, I plan to use pieces on my cards. Incorporate some sewing and stamping on it. Your new designs are awesome.

    Have fun! As I know I will………
