The Click

Handmade Spark is having a very cool blog challenge. We’re coming into a bit late, but the latest challenge (#3)-facing your biggest fear, got us a-thinkin’, which led to this post. Check out the other Sparker’s posts on the subject at the link above!

You know the Click. That wonderfully miraculous feeling when you know you’ve gotten something right. The right bag. The right design. The right _______.

But sometimes the Click doesn’t show up when you need it to. Sometimes (shudder!), the Click deserts you. Sometimes you sit and stare at a bag waiting for the Click to tell you that you’ve nailed it, you’ve figured it all out, you’ve achieved Meatbagz perfection…and it never comes. Sometimes you get the Click, you print the bag, you take the stunning photographs (which involve lots of clicks), you put the bag up online…and then instead of customers clicking, the only sound you hear is…

And then you hear the sound of your own voice, nagging in the back of your head, doubting yourself. And that doubt drowns out any Clicks that you’re supposed to hear about all the other stuff you’ve got going on in your life, your business, your universe.

We’ve had the lack of Clicks. We’ve been there. It’s one of the most frustrating, depressing, and, let’s face it, terrifying feelings ever.

No more Clicks.

No more love.

No more…Meatbagz?

But then, when you least expect it, you hear it…faint, yes, but there. A Click.

It may come from a customer. An unexpected shout out from someone you didn’t know knew that you existed. A sale. A new bag. A design idea. Or maybe just a moment of peace in your everyday life when you realize that it will be okay, because, the truth of the matter is this: Finding the Click again, as difficult as it is, is also very simple:

Don’t give up.

Keep trying. Fail, and fail better the next time around. And maybe the time after that (or the time after that, or the time after that…) you’ll find that Click. And when you find that Click again, you’ll know: you’re back, baby!-and the best part? You never really left.
